Western Writers of America Announces 2022 Spur Award Winners |

TUCSON, Ariz., March 12, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — David Heska Wanbli Weiden won his Fourth Spur price in Three years, and successful novelists Michael Punke and CJ Box are also the 2022 winners, Western Writers of America announced Saturday at the Tucson Festival of Books.

Presentations to winners and runners-up are scheduled for June 22-25 at the WWA convention in Great Falls, Mt.

Weiden won the prize for his short story “Skin”, published in The Midnight Hour: A Chilling Anthology of Crime Novels by 20 Authors of Color (Crooked Lane Books). from Weiden Winter accounts was the winner of the Éperon 2021 for the contemporary novel and the first novel. In 2020, his “Spotted Tail” won the Juvenile Nonfiction Award.

Punke’s ridge line (Henry Holt) won the historical novel prize, while Box’s Dark sky (GP Putnam’s Sons) won the Contemporary Novel Award.

Chase Plett’s The anger of love Eldon Quint (Inkshares) received honors for Traditional Novel and First Novel.

WWA (WesternWriters.org) promotes and honors the best in Western literature with the annual Spur Awards, selected by juries. The awards, for material published in the previous calendar year, are given to works whose inspiration, image, and literary excellence best represent the reality and spirit of the American West.
