Welcome to The Week in Weed, your Friday look at what’s going on in the world of legalized marijuana.
The Illinois Licensing Lottery takes center stage this week. Several states may have voting initiatives in 2022. Louisiana’s decriminalization law went into effect this week. And finally, we present you Cannabis the Cat.
Illinois
Illinois’ never-ending cannabis licensing saga continues. They finally issued licenses – fine. And now there’s yet another lawsuit in the next licensing cycle – less good.
state voting initiatives
Several states are looking to join the list of adult jurisdictions through 2022 poll initiatives. Idaho supporters can start collecting signatures. Arkansas supporters are also busy securing John Hancocks from citizens. In Missouri, “formatting issues” have been a problem for advocates. Oklahoma could see two initiatives to enshrine medical and adult use in the state constitution. Wyoming’s secretary of state has approved two initiatives: one on medical cannabis and the other on decriminalization. Stay tuned for more!
Louisiana
As we reported in June, Louisiana passed a decriminalization bill. The law came into effect on Sunday and the sponsor of the bill, Rep. Cedric Glover (D) has launched a public awareness campaign to explain what you can and cannot do. According to the poster they designed, it’s complicated.
and finally
If you are looking for a way to teach young people about marijuana, maybe Cannabis the Cat can help. He’s a green cat riding a hemp magic carpet, and you can join his adventures with a storybook, a coloring book (because, of course), or a plush figure.
Stay safe and well everyone – we’ll see you next week!
