Shyam Benegal is a film encyclopedia: Shreyas Talpade | People News
New Delhi: Actor Shreyas Talpade proved his mettle right from his Bollywood debut. One of his first films, “Welcome to Sajjanpur”, was very popular with audiences. Directed by the ace filmmaker Shyam Benegal in 2008, the satirical comedy marked its return to the genre after the filming of “Charandas Chor in 1975”.
Recalling his memories of working in the film, Shreyas told IANS: “’Welcome to Sajjanpur’ is one of my favorites. I had a great time shooting for the film. We shot in Hyderabad for 30 days. “
Shreyas played the role of a professional writer for the uneducated people in his village, as he wanted to become a novel writer. Shyam Benegal has woven his storytelling art beautifully into the plot of the film.
Speaking of working with the legendary director, Shreyas said, “Shyam Benegal is like an encyclopedia of movies. I learned from him, you never stop learning.”
“He was so curious, asking questions and curious about everything. He shared different stories with us. He read a lot and shared his knowledge with others. This is something that I really admired about him and that I have. learned from him. “
Shreyas reflected on Shyam Benegal’s directing method and its equation with its actors. “He trusts his actors a lot. He gave us a lot of freedom to improvise or perform on something new. He would put us at ease.
“He would say to his actors, you do whatever you want. Staying in the character and the script, we added some things. And if at the editing table, he felt that the scene is not necessary, he cut it. But he said, don’t stop yourself from creating something new. At the end of the day, we create dreams. We have to make it enjoyable for our audience. “
Shreyas recalled the candid moments shared after filming with the crew and the director. “Even after the shoots it was so much fun. Every day it was a very relaxed fun shoot all day long and in the evening we all worked out in the gym. At 8pm we would meet. at the restaurant. If anyone wanted to have wine, we would order it and relax. “
He explained how particular Benegal was about his food after the film was shot. “Shyam Babu would order food for all of us and every day he would already tell the chef what he wanted for dinner.”
“Whether it was a chicken or mutton dish. He was very specific about how his food was supposed to be cooked. And we would all sit and talk at the dining table. There were so many stories that he shared with us. It was a wonderful experience. “
With Shyam Benegal, he worked in a different kind of cinema for Shreyas. Although the actor misses these days, he nevertheless believes in evolving with the times.
“In making movies we sometimes miss those days and those people we worked with. It’s better for all of us to keep moving forward. Otherwise you get stuck in a certain time zone. I don’t think an actor is an actor. should never do that. You should make a movie and forget about it and move on. “
“Each story has its own charm and is told in a different way. Things keep changing. You better keep adapting to change. The greatest example is Mr. Bachchan. He has been working for years. 70 with people like Hrishikesh Mukherjee and today he’s also worked with younger directors. He’s adapted so well. It’s a great learning experience for any actor, “signed Shreyas.
Shreyas has stated that he will soon be seen in his upcoming film “Manu Aur Munni Ki Shaadi” directed by Deepak Sisodia, based on the genre similar to “Welcome to Sajjanpur”.
