More than 450 people gathered on October 1, 2022 to celebrate the 23rd annual Mass General for Children (MGfC) Storybook Ball at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, raising more than $1.2 million for care pediatrics and research in the famous hospital. The energy in the room was palpable as co-chairs Fiona and James Benenson III and Rachel and Bill Motley greeted guests in black tie to celebrate MGfC’s great work and enjoy an elegant dinner, carnival games and fun. a program of conferences. With a whimsical jungle of bright oranges and fuchsias, tropical prints and imaginative word games, event partner Rafanelli Events has transformed the MFA into Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, the best-selling children’s story on the letters climbing on a coconut tree, falling and being comforted by their parents. and other adults. The theme was inspired by the extraordinary care and expertise of the MGfC Neonatal Medicine team, which was the focus of this year’s gala.
The story of the evening’s star patient led Carter, two, and her family to join Allan M. Goldstein, MD, Surgeon-in-Chief, on stage to reflect on their inspiring MGfC journey. WCVB Channel 5 presenter Erika Tarantal led guests through a spirited auction, and Ronald E. Kleinman, MD, was honored for his years of service as chief medical officer with standing ovations. It has been announced that Joanne Wolfe, MD, MPH, will join the MGH as Chief of the Department of Pediatrics and Chief Medical Officer of the MGfC in January.
The spectacular evening ended with bite-sized desserts, tours of Obama’s portrait gallery and dancing led by DJ Chris Roxx.
