Netflix announces new TV series and movies for January 2022

As Christmas comes to an end and the New Year begins, many of us plan on nothing more than sitting in front of the TV in January.

The climax of the dark night, the dry January attempts, and the financial payback from the holiday season make January the perfect month to curl up on the couch.

Fortunately, Netflix has us covered. The streaming giant has released a slew of new shows and movies for January, with more to come throughout the year.

Here is the list of new releases of Netflix in January, including TV shows, Netflix originals, movies, and documentaries.

January 1st

  • Fracture (2007) – Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling star in this crime thriller about a lawyer climbing the career ladder, but stumble upon his most difficult case to date.
  • Marie Antoinette (2006) – Sofia Coppola stages this historical drama telling the story of the unhappy Queen of France, Marie Antoinette played by Kirsten Dunst.
  • Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) – Classic comedy with Steve Martin and John Candy.
  • Scream 4 (2011) – The fourth entry in the horror film franchise.
  • She’s The Man (2006) – Amanda Bynes stars in this romantic comedy about a girl going to an elite boarding school dressed as a boy.
  • Silver Linings Playbook (2012) – Romantic comedy with Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence.
  • The Hook Up Plan (Season 3) N – The last season of the French comedy series.
  • Werewolves Within (2021) – Sam Richardson stars in this horror comedy that adapts the video game of the same name that follows a small town under attack by werewolves.

January 3

  • The Gentlemen (2019) – Action crime comedy with a huge cast including Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and Colin Farrell. About an American expatriate who sells his drug empire in London.
  • The Nest (2020) – Jude Law and Carrie Coon star in this romantic drama about the family of an American entrepreneur moving to a peaceful English country mansion.

January 5

  • Four to Dinner (2022) N – Italian romantic comedy about four couples that challenges the idea that there is a soul mate for everyone.
  • Rebelde (Season 1) N – A new revival series based on the popular Spanish musical series and described as a soap opera.
  • Redemption of a Rogue (2020) – Dark comedy about a prodigal son returning home in search of salvation for his sins.

January 6

  • DOTA: Dragon’s Blood (Book 2) N – Season 2 of the animated series based on the Valve MOBA.
  • The Club (Part 2) N – New episodes of the Turkish period drama series set in the 1950s in Istanbul.
  • The Wasteland (2021) N – Spanish-language horror film about a family living in isolation visited by an evil being.
  • Uncle Drew (2018) – Comedy about a sneaker seller regrouping his former basketball team to try and win a streetball tournament.

January 7

  • Johnny Test (Season 2) N – An action-packed new season from WildBrain Studios.
  • Mother / Android (2021) N – Chloe Grace Moretz heads this dystopian sci-fi thriller set in a post-apocalyptic world where an android uprising has taken place.

January 10

  • Undercover (Season 3) N – The Dutch-language crime thriller returns for another season.

January 13

The Journalist (Season 1) N – Japanese series from director and screenwriter Michihito Fujii. Adapts a 2019 theatrical film of the same name and revolves around a journalist who seeks to expose modern issues in Japan.

January 14th

  • Archive 81 (Season 1) N – A new horror series loosely based on a popular podcast. The series is about an archivist falling into a rabbit hole.
  • The House (Season 1) N – Humorous stop-motion anthology series about a house and the three surreal stories of the people who made it their home.

January 19

  • El marginal (Season 4) N – Argentine suspense series.
  • Too Hot to Handle (Season 3) N – New episodes of Netflix’s reality TV series.

January the 21st

  • Munich – The Edge of War (2021) N – Adapting the bestselling Robert Harris novel, this film documents the days leading up to WWII.
  • Ozark (Season 4 – Part 1) N – It’s game over for the Byrde family as tensions rise for the first half of the final season.

25 january

  • Neymar: The Perfect Choice (2022) N – Football documentary on the Brazilian player.

28 january

  • Home Team (2022) N – Kevin James produces and stars in this NFL movie about a head coach who gets suspended and ends up coaching his son’s team instead.
  • In From the Cold (Season 1) N – Thriller spy series about a mother who went into hiding but whose life was turned upside down when the CIA forced her to confront her long-buried past as a Russian spy.
  • The Orbital Children (Season 1) N – Animated sci-fi series set in a future where AI has advanced dramatically and you can travel effortlessly through space.
  • The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (Limited Series) N – Comedy Parody with Kristen Bell.
