MARTINSBURG – Police identified an 18-year-old man as the victim of a fatal stabbing Friday night in Martinsburg.
The deceased has been identified as John A. Wilson, 18, who died at Berkeley Medical Center, according to a press release from the Martinsburg Police Department on Saturday afternoon. His relatives have been warned.
Officers from the Martinsburg Police Department and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop at War Memorial Park on Friday evening after receiving a call from the hospital regarding two men who had dropped off Wilson.
The pair were then said to have left the hospital in a black sedan, heading for War Memorial Park, police said.
While officers were working at this traffic stop and gathering information, other MPD officers responded to the Stephen Street and Virginia Avenue area with reference to a caller who had previously witnessed a stroke. knife.
According to police, it appears that the two men arrested by the police were with the stabbed victim. They provided statements to officers at the scene. The vehicle had evidence that it had been involved in the incident.
Police said the vehicle was towed from the scene for a further search to be carried out later.
Meanwhile, information was given that the man dropped off at the hospital had died. This would lead to a long, overnight investigation.
“It now appears that the stab wounds could be the result of a robbery gone bad,” police said in the press release. “We have identified several people involved at this time and are still trying to sort out the details of exactly what happened. Some of those involved are minors.”
The incident, according to police, is currently being treated as a homicide. Based on this, the deceased is sent to Charleston to the West Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. An MPD officer will attend the autopsy.
The incident is still under investigation at the time of the press release on Saturday afternoon.
