Don Bosco to face Summit in Tournament of Champions lacrosse game
New Jersey’s top men’s lacrosse team will be crowned this weekend at the Tournament of Champions.
Don Bosco will play against Summit, and for the Ironmen it would be a storybook ending an unprecedented season.
“We weren’t sure if we were going to have a season at the start of the school year and we started to worry when we continued to be closed during the preseason,” says junior Connor Gorman. “As the season went on, we continued to realize that we had something special and we didn’t stop.”
At 17-0, Don Bosco created a buzz all season long as New Jersey’s top-ranked team.
“We see a lot of students at football and basketball games. But seeing them at lacrosse games and seeing the teachers, professors and administration, alumni, parents, players – it’s really very rewarding, ”said head coach Brendan Gorman.
They say defense wins championships. The seeds Ironmen and the second-seeded Hilltoppers are allowing an average of less than five goals per game.
“We are just grateful to have the opportunity to compete with them. They are leading a zone defense. We’re a zone defense so if you’re a lacrosse fan in the state it’s going to be a great game, ”said Gorman.
A victory for Don Bosco would not only crown a perfect season, but also give the team its first Tournament of Champions title in the history of the program.
“It would mean a lot. We’ve been working so hard all season just to get here and this will be the first in the history of the program. So it’s going to be something special, ”explains junior Koleton Marquis.
Don Bosco and Summit will face off in the Tournament of Champions final on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Olive High School.
