Bagwell was a member of Easley City Council from 1979 to 2008, when he was then elected as mayor and served from 2008 to 2020. Easley Fire, John Willis (retired), died early in the morning on Friday September 17, 2021. Willis began his career with the fire department at the Parker Fire Department in Greenville, South Carolina , before becoming a volunteer firefighter with the Easley Fire Department in 1994. In 95 years, Willis went on to become a full-time firefighter at Easley and served faithfully until his retirement in 2017. Over his many years of service and involvement in the city, Willis is affectionately known u as “Santa’s helper” and is known for delivering hundreds of letters to Santa on behalf of countless children. Former Easley Police Officer Greg Turner died at his home on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Turner began his law enforcement career in the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office before becoming a duty officer Easley Police Department in 1991. During his tenure at Easley, Turner’s roles included a Highway Patrol Supervisor and Criminal Investigator before ending his career in the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office in 2005. Turner was a mainstay. within the community and a wealth of knowledge known to peers as a “walking encyclopedia”. The three men will be dearly missed, but their legacy will live on forever in our city. ”
