Call for applications: the question of personal backgrounds

Send us your leads and your pitches before October 22.
The deadline for locations is October 22
As a leading publisher of journalism solutions for over 25 years, YES! reported on communities, including those historically excluded, organizing to address issues created by mining and mining systems. We have told stories of social justice movements that are propelling the nation forward. Even though we have inspired countless readers to take action in their own communities, many others are asking questions: but how? Which can I do about it? How to do I do that ?
These questions can sometimes lead to feeling overwhelmed. Even those who “do the job” burn out. There is so much work to be done to create a better world – a just world, a just, compassionate and sustainable world. Where do I start? How can I get started?
And how to continue?
The Spring 2022 issue of YES! Magazine will be an introspective and personal exploration of “being the change you want to see in the world”. This will allow readers to stop, stand still, breathe, think, and contemplate. Consider their own free will through the stories of others as part of building a better world for all.
We seek arguments and leads for reported stories, essays and analysis that will explore personal approaches to activism and, simply, ways to engage with what is happening in our communities. These stories should reveal how personal change relates to the biggest change we all want to see, how transforming the way people see themselves can transform the policies that govern us and the way we manage the earth and planet.
Send us your leads and arguments about the people, initiatives or groups that help us connect with how we take responsibility for our role in creating a better world.
All of the stories we are looking for will be examples of excellent journalism and storytelling: stories with compelling characters that are well researched and demonstrate struggle and resolve. Hurry up and send your locations to[email protected]before October 22 to be considered for the spring issue. (All other locations can be sent to[email protected].)
